Amazing little airplane from Slovenia holds several new world records
A small aircraft manufacturer from the tiny country of Slovenia – between Austria and Italy – stunned the aviation world with their amazing aircraft designs. One of them is Pipistrel Sinus, a light-sport aircraft, motor-glider and a glider at the same time.
Sinus ultralight motor-glider combines a true sense of a motorglider with unprecedented efficiency during powered and long-range cruise flight. Sinus can take-off and land on very short runways, fly long distance cross-country or just glide - all in the same aircraft.
Several world records
Having already proven itself in the gliding arena with several eye-catching achievements, including a FAI 500 km triangle, the Sinus hold a multitude of world records and aviation milestones.
Sinus was the absolute winner of the World Championship in 2001 and came runner-up in 2005. In 2004 Sinus was the first light aircraft to fly around the world.
Since then, Sinus owners have performed remarkable long-range flights including a non-stop flight from Pisa to Lisbon, Athens – North Cape flight - and the first ever light aircraft Australia - New Zealand crossing.
Three aircraft in one
With the Sinus, you literally purchase three aircraft for the price of one! You get a glider, a long-range super-economic cruiser and the most versatile training aircraft on the market.
Thanks to dual flight controls and a choice of either tailwheel or nosewheel undercarriage the Sinus can be used as a primary gliding and powered-aircraft trainer.
Perfect safety record
Safety is Pipistrel’s primary concern. This is why Sinus features the Safety Cockpit Concept. The entire cabin area is encased with energy absorbing structures made from Kevlar fiber, an amazing material that maintains the integrity of the cabin and makes it safe also in case of stronger impacts.
Together with our special Safety Cockpit Concept the Sinus can also be equipped with the ballistic parachute rescue system, which saves the complete aircraft together with the crew in case of severe emergencies.
Robust and reliable
More than 300 of our aircraft fly on all six continents of the world – often under very difficult conditions.
All systems on board have withstood rigorous testing to ensure the aircraft performs at its best in hot or cold, wet or dry, low or high. Flight schools love the Sinus because of reliability, super-low operating costs and endless possibilities of flying.
Highest technology and maintenance free
Pipistrel’s airplanes are all known for being virtually maintenance free. The highest of technologies, including honeycomb techniques, which we use to build composites and best quality metal alloys, including titanium and magnesium, which are used on parts of the aircraft, ensure that the aircraft will last a lifetime in a like-new condition.
The Pipistrel Sinus and Virus were the world's first ultralight certified composite two-seater motorgliders. Made from the same JAR 22 long life composite materials as used in certified gliders these aircraft are economical to buy and own and simple to fly and maintain. Over 350 are now flying the skies around the world.
The clean design, low drag and superb construction make these designs some of the most economical aircraft ever made.
The Sinus, Virus, Virus SW, Taurus and Apis are now available in the LSA category and the Sinus, Virus and Virus SW are also available as a FAA 51% approved kits.
The new Sinus-Sport and Virus-Sport models have been developed specifically for the Sport Pilot category are currently shipping.
If an owner does not intend to fly for a while, he can disassemble the Virus model in only 15 minutes - all the controls are self-fitting, making this task as carefree as possible.
