Sun ’n Fun Custom Contemporary Grand Champion
Sun 'n Fun, held April 13-18 in Lakeland, Florida, is one of the largest General Aviation conventions in the world. This year the Grand Champion Custom Contemporary was Lee Hussey of Martinsville VA and his 1964 Piper Comanche PA-24 400.Hussey looked for a Piper Comanche 400 for more than five years before making his purchase in 2007.When Hussey found the plane that met his criteria, he realized that there was still work to be done.During the subsequent refurbishing process, he was having some fuselage work done when he noticed blue hoses on another plane. “I was impressed.” His mechanic said that the hoses came from Herber Aircraft.Later, Hussey met Randy Herber at the 2009 Sun ’n Fun. When it came time to replace the old hoses in the Comanche, Hussey knew who to call. Hussey sent Herber Aircraft his old hoses and the company quickly replaced them with brand new silicon blue hoses. They were just like the ones that Hussey had admired years earlier. In addition Hussey says, “They were extremely nice people… and they treated me well.”Lee Hussey put countless hours of work into his Piper Comanche. He even took a photo of the blue hoses so the judges could see them after he put the cowling back on. He wanted to win, and he wanted to show the judges every detail of his finished work. “I think it paid off,” says Hussey. That was an understatement!Herber Aircraft congratulates Lee Hussey on his 2010 win for Grand Champion Custom Contemporary. Customers like Mr. Hussey make doing business that much more rewarding, and the “nice people” at Herber look forward to working with him again soon.
