Little did Jim and JoAnn Collom when they started in 1999 ever envision the success that has blessed HMA. First of all, HMA sets atop Holley Mountain in the Southern Ozark Mountains in North Central Arkansas, just North of beautiful Greer’s Ferry Lake. The views from the mountaintop are outstanding, and the facility is second to none with its 4,800 ft paved lighted runway that has GPS approaches to both ends. Great minimums too, remember it’s on the mountaintop. Plus, it sports an excellent Helipad overlooking the South rim of the Mountain. However, the best assets, as the Collom’s say are its residents, better known as all the neighbors.
Holley Mountain Airpark was a dream that Jim had all the way back to High School days in the early 1970’s. He just thought it was to be on a much smaller scale.HMA sets within a 506-acre tract, with only 86 total tracts to be sold with 51 already sold in the first 9 years. You ask any of the neighbors what makes it a great place and all will tell you: ”It’s the mountain beauty, pace of life and the neighbors that we have become to know as family”.
With the amenities above, what else could improve such a great place to call home but it’s very own fire protection. In 2004 the residents of HMA along with some of the surrounding area neighbors chartered their very own Rural Volunteer Fire Department, better known as HMAFD.With the combination of equipment provided by Jim and JoAnn, the water system they built into the Airpark and the very dedicated residents, they not only developed just a average Fire Department, but one of the country’s 55 ISO Class 1 rated departments. Again, this is neighbors protecting neighbors, plus this makes HMA a good neighbor to the surrounding communities too.
If you are looking to move to an Aviation Community with un-crowded airspace without spending a fortune that still provides the safety of any city, not to mention some of the lowest homeowners insurance rates in the country, you might just want to make a visit to Holley Mountain Airpark.
