MUSEUM OF AVIATION FOUNDATION TO HOST MARATHON, HALF-MARATHON & 5K RUN/WALK SATURDAY, JANUARY 14, 2012

            Warner Robins, GA -- The Sixteenth Annual Museum of Aviation Foundation Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk will be held at the Museum of Aviation on Saturday, January 14, 2012. The event, put on by the Museum of Aviation Foundation and the Robins Pacers Running/Walking Club, is one of the largest marathon races held in Middle Georgia and is part of the 2012 Run & See Georgia Grand Prix Series. Proceeds from the growing annual event benefit the Museum of Aviation, one of the largest education-focused aviation museums in the country.

            In last year's race 1,244 runners and walkers from 33 U. S. States plus Ontario (Canada) and Kenya participated in the races held on Robins Air Force Base. All three races are USA Track and Field certified, are accurately measured and are relatively flat and fast. All participants receive a quality colorful long-sleeve race shirt and those who postmark their registration by January 7 are guaranteed to receive their shirt on race day.

            Cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place male and female finishers in each race. First place gets $250, second place $150 and third place $100. Trophies are also awarded to the overall top three male and female finishers in each race; the overall top three male and female masters in each race; the top active duty military male and female in the marathon; and the top three finishers in fourteen different age categories.

            Chip timing will be used again this year. Each marathon and half-marathon runner will receive a medallion with ribbon as they cross the finish line. Patriotic opening ceremonies will be held in the Century of Flight Hangar with refreshments and hot soup available afterwards.

            The start time for the marathon and half marathon is 8:00 a.m. The 5K Run/Walk will start at 8:15 a.m. Entry Fees are: 5K Run/Walk - $20; Half Marathon - $40 and Full Marathon - $50. A $5 surcharge is assessed for registrations after January 7. Race packets may be picked up at the Museum of Aviation Century of Flight Hangar on race day only between 6:30-7:30 a.m. A picture ID is required at registration/check-in. Award ceremonies will be held in the Museum's Century of Flight Hangar at 9:30 a.m. for the 5K; 10:45 a.m. for the Half Marathon and 1:00 p.m. for the Marathon.

            No switching races after 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13.             The Museum of Aviation, located 10 miles east of I-75 Exit 144 in Warner Robins, Georgia has a collection of over 100 aircraft and missiles and is the home of the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame. RUN OR WALK TO HAPPIER HEALTHIER LIFE- A personal note to all friends of the Museum of Aviation. This Saturday is going to be another huge event at the Museum of Aviation. We expect another 1,100 runners and walkers to come out to enjoy a cool, brisk Georgia winter morning strolling, fast walking or flat out speeding on foot around Robins Air Force Base. Last year we had people from 33 U.S. states and several overseas countries – this is becoming one of the premier races in Georgia. We want to thank all those who have helped us inform the public about this even and invite you to come out and cover it live Saturday morning. We’ll be registering in the Century of Flight hangar starting at 6:30 a.m. and the opening ceremony will be around 7:45 with races starting at 8 and 8:15 a.m.
