WHY:   Cristo Rey Jesuit’s inaugural gala, Defying Gravity, is a sold out event, hosting over 1200 people at Enterprise Jet Center. This event marks the first time Enterprise Jet Center has opened its doors for a private event.
Proceeds from the event will help fund the operating expenses of the school which provides a college prep education for low income high school students and promises them college acceptances. The school’s rigorous curriculum is supplemented by a Corporate Work-Study Program in which students spend one day a week working at a corporation to help pay their tuition.

About Cristo Rey Jesuit: Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School of Houston, a Catholic high school, combines personal responsibility, academic rigor, and a corporate work-study program to empower students of all faiths from economically challenged families to reach their full potential.   In its second academic year, Cristo Rey Jesuit welcomed 160 freshmen and sophomore students from the local neighborhood as well as outer-lying areas.  All students participate in the Corporate Work-Study Program where four students share one entry-level position at corporations across the city.  This program pays more than 70% of the students’ tuition.  Each student works one full workday and attends school four long days per week.  Cristo Rey Jesuit is part of a larger network consisting of 24 schools across the nation.  Last year, 99% of the graduating seniors in the Cristo Rey Network were accepted into college.  Please visit   www.cristoreyjesuit.org  for more information.

About the Cristo Rey Network®: The Cristo Rey Network is comprised of 24 high schools that provide a quality, Catholic, college preparatory education to 5,892 urban young people who live in communities with limited educational options. Most of our students qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program. Member schools utilize a longer school day and year, academic assistance, and counseling to prepare students with a broad range of academic abilities for college. All students at Cristo Rey Network schools participate in a work-study program through which they finance the majority of the cost of their education, gain real world job experience, grow in self-confidence, and realize the relevance of their education.
