Silent Wings Museum To Commemorate 67th Anniversary of D-Day

On June 6, 1944, Allied forces conducted a two-phased assault on German occupied France.  An air assault of airborne troops landed behind enemy lines to coordinate attacks on German support artillery and supply positions.  The attacks would usher in the amphibious landing of Allied infantry and armored divisions on the coast of France. 
 
The operation was the largest amphibious invasion of all time.  Silent Wings Museum will commemorate the 67th anniversary of D-Day by offering FREE admission on Saturday, June 4th and Sunday June 5th from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.  The museum will offer the following activities:
  • Exhibit: "Putt-Putt Air Force on the Home Front: Lubbock's WWII Civilian Pilot Training Program"
  • WWII aircraft displays
  • Appearances by the WWII Airborne Demonstration Team with their C-47 "Boogie Baby"
  • C-47 "Liberty Rides" available for purchase
  • Children's activities hosted in the Hangar Gallery
  • Screenings of the documentary "D-Day Remembered"
  • Admission is free of charge
