It's all about B-17s here at Planes of Fame. We are delighted to host the EAA's countrywide tour of "Aluminum Overcast". She arrives Thursday, April 21 for a press day. This aircraft will be open for the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 22-24 and displayed here at Planes of Fame. While you are here, check out our own "Piccadilly Lilly II" Planes of Fame's Restoration in Progress...She's open to the public for tours. Stop by and chat with our B-17 volunteers and learn about her history and progress towards flight. Last stop: "Swamp Ghost" an aviation archaelogical find in the swamps on New Guinea. Lost for 3 decades, this display is here for you to see.
EAA is offering historic flight experiences in its beautifully restored B-17G Flying Fortress "Aluminum Overcast". One of only 14 Fortress's still flying, this aircraft is an icon of the Allied strategic bombing effort that helped turn the tide of battle in World War II. Unlike reading a history book, you can actually fly a mission back in time and feel the might of this magnificent machine, just as those brave young men did more than 60 years ago.Book your tour or flight through the EAA website www.b17.org or call 1-800-359-6217 for reservations and inquiries.
Our Wilbur Richardson stands in front of Aluminum Overcast during last year's visit to Planes of Fame.
Our volunteers are the heart of our Museum. This dedicated crew has been instrumental in the on-going restoration of Piccadilly Lilly II.
"Swamp Ghost" the B-17 E that was lost on the first bombing raid in the South Pacific - buried in a swamp for 30 years before it was recovered, is currently on display at Planes of Fame.
